Since we were taking two of our Drum Horse foals to the show the next day, we thought we should probably teach them to load on the float. This experience was a tremendous tribute to both Aprils ever-improving horse handling skills and the temperament of the Drum Horse.
After just 15 minutes, Noelle was walking up into the float like she was an old hand. Then came Eli’s turn. At first, he baulked at walking up the float (maybe the sound of the rain on the rooftop was a bit much??). I joked that we must’ve started with the “wrong” horse and taught the easy one first. I went inside to check dinner and get that ready. I came outside and saw him halfway into the float. I thought that this was a great improvement, when April told me that he had already been in and out 6 times already.
